The AbleDisAbled group is for people who are having a hard time finding and doing things that give them a sense of purpose. Members decide what they want to do. Some choices could be advocating for their needs, building skills for living, developing areas of interest, learning balance & healthy ways to take care of ourselves. We come together and make things that we sell to generate income that supports advocacy efforts and individual members. Our items include cards, decorative items, jewelry, and pet toys. We are always coming up with new ideas for things to create from found objects!
We are people living in Denton, Texas. Our group includes people who are homeless, people living with mental health and/or physical disability, professors, helping professionals and people who are interested in making a difference.
We are a group of people seeking to help others and ourselves. Our first two goals have been:
1. Advocating for people in Denton who need help.
2. Developing some productive occupations.
We are supported by the Denton Community Health Clinic and Texas Woman’s University’s School of Occupational Therapy. We have advocated with everyone from area agencies to legislators. We engage in crafts and other activities and are hoping to develop a line of recycled products to sell locally. We are advocates with varied experiences who come together to support each other.
